Believed to Contain Excess Liquid Nitrogen, Indonesia's Ministry of Health Warns About the Dangers of Smoky Snacks

Believed to Contain Excess Liquid Nitrogen

JAKARTA — The Indonesian Ministry of Health in a statement warned all parties to be more vigilant about Ice Smoke street food, also known as liquid nitrogen snacks because it is believed to contain excess liquid nitrogen.

In the statement, the Director General of Disease Prevention and Control, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu said the excessive use of liquid nitrogen on the food could cause health problems for the public.

"Ice Smoke or Ciki Ngebul is a snack that children love. When Ciki Ngebul is eaten it not only gives a cold sensation but the mouth also emits smoke.

"The smoke is caused by liquid nitrogen that is at a low temperature," he said in the statement.

He added, the addition of liquid nitrogen in the food that does not follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) can cause health problems or food poisoning such as frostbite which results in burns especially on some soft tissues such as the skin.

In addition, smoke inhaled from food or drinks that use liquid nitrogen can also cause severe breathing difficulties in addition to the throat feeling burnt due to extreme cold temperatures after direct contact with body organs or worse damage to internal organs.

Therefore, the Regional, District, City, Puskesmas and B/BTKLPP Health Offices as well as the Port Health Office will carry out the supervision of ready-to-eat food products that use liquid nitrogen.

"It is to provide education to traders, stakeholders, schools, children and the public about the dangers of liquid nitrogen in ready meals.

"For restaurants that use liquid nitrogen in food products must be under the guidance and supervision of the Local Health Service and related parties on safe use information for consumers.

"For food stalls (TPP), such as shops, it is not recommended to sell liquid nitrogen snacks in the food products sold," he explained further.

According to Rondonuwu, if there is food poisoning caused by the addition of liquid nitrogen, the case will be investigated by the Rapid Action Team (TGC) in accordance with Minister of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2013 regarding the Extraordinary Event (KLB) of food poisoning.

Earlier, three cases of food poisoning due to liquid nitrogen were reported. The first case occurred in July 2022 involving a child who caused burns due to Ice smoke.

While on 19 November 2022, a total of 23 people were reported to have been poisoned by Ciki Ngebul.

In addition, on December 21, 2022, the Jakarta Haji Hospital UGD reported receiving two and four-year-old children as a result of eating the food.

Not All Perfumes Last Long, Know These Five Different Codes Before Buying

Perfume is a type of product that has always attracted people's interest since ancient times. It is also considered to represent the personality or describe the skills of the person.

Until now, we can see various brands of perfume sold in the market both locally and globally.

In the world of fragrance, the selection of perfume is very important because it can give confidence in living life. Generally, perfume oil contains perfume essence level, alcohol level and also water.

Furthermore, each perfume sold in stores or online has a different code for example Parfum, Eau de Parfum (EDP), Eau de Toilette (EDT), Eau de Cologne (EDC) and Eau Fraiche (EF).

So what is the meaning behind all the code above? In fact, each code above means the concentration level of the perfume. The concentration of the fragrance is very important in determining how long the scent will last on the skin.

Therefore, for those who are looking for a perfume that suits them, it is encouraged to know the meaning behind the type of fragrance first.

For that, let's follow the meaning behind the five fragrance codes below.

Five Perfume Codes

Generally, in the world of fragrance there are five types of codes consisting of Parfum, Eau de Parfum (EDP), Eau de Toilette (EDT), Eau de Cologne (EDC) and Eau Fraiche (EF).

Each of these fragrance codes is very different in terms of the concentration level of the perfume in the bottle. Therefore, it is the level of concentration that will determine whether the performance of the perfume can last for a long time or not.

Parfum, Eau de Parfum (EDP), Eau de Toilette (EDT), Eau de Cologne (EDC) and Eau Fraiche (EF)

Parfum

Perfume Code

Parfum has the highest level of fragrance concentration. Usually, Parfum type perfume oil contains concentration levels from 15 percent to 40 percent but usually it is between 20 percent to 30 percent in most perfume oils.

In addition, it also has a scent that can last from eight hours and above.

Generally, Parfum has a much higher or expensive price value compared to all types of fragrances due to its concentration level. For those with sensitive skin, it is recommended to use a perfume that has a lower fragrance concentration level so as not to dry the skin.

Eau de Parfum (EDP)

Perfume Code

Eau de Parfum or better known as EDP is the second highest type of perfume after Parfum. Generally, EDP has a fragrance concentration level between 15 percent to 20 percent.

Due to the relatively high level of fragrance concentration, this type of perfume can last for eight to 10 hours.

For information, EDP is one of the most common types of fragrances and is suitable for daily wear.

Eau de Toilette (EDT)

Perfume Code

Next, Eau de Toilette or EDT occupies the third chart in perfume concentration containing five percent to 15 percent. The term eau de toilette comes from the French term "faire sa toilette" which means getting ready.

In terms of durability. EDT is much inferior to EDP type perfumes by recording the scent for six to eight hours on the skin depending on the ingredients used.

If compared to EDP, this perfume is cheaper and one of the most popular.

Eau de Cologne (EDC)

Perfume Code

As for Eau de Colagne or EDC, it is one type of perfume oil that has a much lower concentration rate than the average of other perfumes.

This is because EDC only has a concentration of fragrance between two percent and four percent. EDCs usually come in much larger bottles or containers.

Plus, it only lasts for two hours on your skin.

Therefore, it requires a higher spray rate to use on yourself.

Eau Fraiche (EF)

Perfume Code

The last type of fragrance is known as Eau fraiche or called EF. This type of money oil only contains one to three percent in its form.

Although it does not have a high rate of perfume oil, it also does not use a lot of alcohol, instead it is water.

Therefore, this type of fragrance only has a scent durability of two hours.

Often eating raw meat, tapeworms as long as two meters out of the body

Often eating raw meat

As a result of frequent consumption of raw meat, a two-meter-long tapeworm was found coming out of a man's body in an incident in Thailand, Thaiger reported.

The man, Amarit Chuetamuen who is a die-hard lover of raw beef has made the dish his favorite food for the past three years.

According to Thaiger, Amarit will eat the meat several times in a month. One of his favorite dishes is slices of raw beef paired with a spicy Thai dipping sauce called Soi Ju (สั้ว้ช).

Meanwhile, the second menu that he likes is Koi Nuea (가이는), which is a combination of minced pork (Larb) mixed with minced raw beef.

The incident started when Amarit ate worm medicine, an anthelmintic before going to bed. The next day, he was woken up by feeling that there was 'something' slipping out of his lower body.

Originally, Amarit thought that the 'thing' was his intestine but, later when it was found moving, Amarit confirmed that the 'thing' was a 10 cm tapeworm that had come out of his body. Citing Thaiger, Amarit stated that he had never experienced stomach pain and other symptoms.

Due to the incident, Amarit has warned raw meat lovers to control their appetites. "Hey all! Today, I want to warn everyone who loves raw meat like me.

“Look at this! It is almost two meters long. I have been eating raw meat for two to three years and this is what has happened to me.

"Do not believe? This is a tapeworm. After all this time! My hair is on fire right now. I took an anthelmintic last night, and this came out in the morning,” he shared on TikTok.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Public Health (Thailand) warned the public to avoid eating raw meat, especially pork.

Following that, the Department of Disease Control (DDC) also reported that in November last year, 101 Thai citizens in Isaan province were infected with streptococcus suis, known as hearing loss fever.

Britain's Oldest Lorry Driver Delighted, Gets Approval To Continue Career

Gets Approval To Continue Career

Britain's oldest lorry driver who still works 12-hour days at the age of 90 has reportedly received approval from British health authorities to continue working for another year.

According to a report by The Telegraph, the man named Brian Wilson started driving an armored truck in Germany during his national service in 1950.

When he returned to the UK, he began his career as a lorry driver delivering petrol for the Esso oil company in 1953, before eventually taking over his father's transport company.

After 70 years, the father-of-four still wakes up at 4am for 12-hour shifts delivering goods to various places around the UK such as Rochdale, Birmingham and Newcastle.

Wilson needs a full medical report from his doctor every year to get permission to drive on the road. After passing his annual assessment this year, he is very happy to be able to continue his career.

"If I feel healthy enough, then I will continue even though I am getting older. I had to go every year and I'm glad I passed," said Wilson.

Despite driving for more than 70 years

After working for Esso, Wilson began driving for his father's trucking company, E. Wilson & Sons.

He eventually took over the firm when his father died in the 1970s and has run it ever since.

Despite driving for more than 70 years, Wilson is considering retirement next year and plans to travel to Thailand with his wife Mavis, 89, who he met when he was 15 at a fairground.

"I might retire next year but I don't know because it all depends on my wife's condition, as she will be 90 years old.

"But when I retire later, I want to go to Thailand for a few months because one of my children lives in Thailand. He has his own business there and has been there for about 15 years,” Wilson said.

The couple got married six years after they met for the first time. Wilson said his wife, who retired a year ago, encouraged him to continue working.

Wilson never had an accident in his decade of driving, and the longest he ever took time off work was seven weeks when he broke his leg at age 40. He will be 91 years old this March.
